DESCRIPTION:We are hosting a screening of the film “For Love” at the Paramount in Kamloops on Wednesday\, May 11\, at 7 p.m. Tickets are $15\, with $1 going to Kamloops Film Society and all profits going to the Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc. Tickets will be available at the door and online at https://www.thekfs.ca/movie/6512/\nHere’s the agenda for the screening: SCFSA Screening of FOR LOVE-agenda\nDirected by Matt Smiley\, narrated by Shania Twain\, and written and produced by Smiley and Mary Teegee\, “For Love” is a film of resilience and resurgence. Colonization has led to many adverse impacts on the Indigenous population of Canada – most significantly on familial and societal structures. Due to colonial regimes\, Indigenous children are vastly overrepresented in the child welfare system. In 2018\, the Minister of Indigenous Affairs deemed the issue “a humanitarian crisis.”\nTravelling across the country\, Indigenous people tell their heartbreaking stories to reveal the atrocities inflicted by the Canadian child welfare system. The film shines a light on what is happening right now. It details the horrors of the past and reveals how Indigenous communities are taking back jurisdictional control of their children in order to ensure that their unique and diverse cultures are preserved for generations to come.

Our Mental Health team will be joined by guest Martha Soloman\, a certified sexual health educator.\nThis workshop is geared towards parents and caregivers who are looking to create an open dialogue with their children\, tweens\, and teens about all kinds of sexual health topics. In these workshops parents and caregivers will learn:\n• How and why a trusted adult is essential to kids’ healthy development\n• How to identify your personal values around sex and sexuality\n• What topics you need to discuss with children and youth and what ages to start these conversations\n• How to keep the lines of communication open\n• Trusted resources for you and your child that provide accurate and up-to-date sexual health information (books\, websites\, videos)
