DESCRIPTION:Staff and impacted community members are invited to SCFSA’s weekly Final Settlement Agreement information sessions. \nThis is a forum to ask questions and to hopefully better understand the FSA. \nBACKGROUND: The Final Settlement Agreement for the First Nations Child and Family Services and Jordan’s Principle Class Action (the “FSA”) is a proposed settlement of a 2006 Canadian Human Rights Tribunal case. The approximate total value of the FSA is $43 billion and of that\, the Federal Court has required Canada to pay $23.34 billion in direct compensation\, while $19.81 billion was allocated to long term reform of First Nations Child and Family Services. \nThe case is based on discriminatory underfunding practices of First Nations Child and Family Services. \nIndividuals impacted will be compensated and a process to reform the First Nations Child and Family Services is being developed.
